Các dịch vụ trong nước theo xu hướng web 2.0 đang nở rộ như nấm mọc sau mưa. Bên cạnh việc học tập mô hình, họ cũng bắt đầu chú trọng đến khía cạnh văn hóa của Web 2.0. Ngày Halloween, dạo qua các dịch vụ Web 2.0 Việt Nam có thể thấy các trang đều trừng lên logo của mình cả một ‘thế giới ma quỉ’:P! Đó là một nét họ học tập từ Google, cứ đến một ngày lễ đặc biệt nào đó là đại gia tìm kiếm lại có một logo đặc biệt để chào mừng. Điều này cho thấy Việt Nam bắt đầu đi sâu hơn vào tinh thần Web mới.

2007 in Jasonlog’s eyes:

It is nearly one year since I started blogging on new media scene in Vietnam. Looking back early 2007 Web 2.0 is the buzzword known to few local Internet entrepreneurs but now it is a hot word among Vietnamese business people and investors. Motivated by successful IPO of China’s Internet firms and high price tag of M&A deals and valuation of new media biz, local technology companies and young teams are rushing to the Internet goldmine hoping to get a foothold early on. Almost all of Web 2.0 models around the world are being cloned in Vietnam from YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn to Digg, Netvibes, Twitter. A formula of success is that some models work in China could work in Vietnam. By the end of year 2007 I still did not see a big hit among those startups. Perhaps there is no momentum for them to get to fast track: lack of seasoned management, hard to monetize with high traffic sites. Most chase consumer entertainment services and few startups target enterprise apps SaaS and click and mortar hybrid that have more sustainable revenue model.

2008 in Jasonlog’s mind:

Social Media:

• Many new startups will be launched until mid year then some quit of exhausting.
• Some large tech companies such as FPT, CMC will opt for acquisition instead of in-house development.
• Self hosted Wordpress based blogs are increasing popular.
• Active Yahoo360 accounts will drop 50%

Search Service:

• No local player can challenge the Google’ dominant position.

Online Gaming:

• WOW explore the market through Asian affiliate.
• Audition Online is still the top casual MMO

Mobile:

• iPhone is the top choice of wish list among local professionals and Vietnam is the largest market of iPhone in Southeast Asia with sales of 200K to 250K of units end of the year 2008.
• No one remember DVB-H ever in existence
• Wimax is still in testing and not a commodity until yearend

Investment:

• Some international VC firms will enter Vietnam market in addition to incumbent IDGVV, DFJ Vina.
• Local VC and angels network will be formed to get a piece of the pie.
